Johns Hopkins University

Who we are

Since opening its doors in 1876, The Johns Hopkins University has endeavored to achieve three main goals: to educate its students and cultivate their capacity for life-long learning, to foster independent and original research, and to bring the benefits of discovery to the world. We are based in Baltimore, with 10 divisions spread out across 10 campuses on three continents, covering a wide array of interests and industries — from the arts and music, the humanities, the social and natural sciences, to engineering, international studies, education, business, and the health professions — Johns Hopkins has evolved into Maryland’s largest private employer and contributes more than $10 billion annually to the state's economy.
