Position Summary –Registered Dietitian Nutritionist- Outpatient Level 1
The registered dietitian utilizes the nutrition care process to screen, assess, diagnose, offer nutrition intervention, and monitor the nutrition status and progress of patients. The registered dietitian uses the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Standards of Practice in Nutrition Care and Standards of Professional Performance for registered dietitians.
Essential Job Functions
Nutrition Assessment, Diagnosis, Intervention, Monitoring, and Evaluation (ADIME)
Evaluates medical records to obtain necessary medical information such as anthropometrics, biochemical data, medical tests/procedures, patient history and socio-economic status to determine patient nutritional status and develop nutritional care plans.
Applies scientific, theoretical knowledge, and critical thinking skills to the care of patients.
Performs Nutrition-focused Physical Assessments to assist in determining the nutritional status and macro- and micronutrient needs of patients.
Interacts with other interdisciplinary team members to provide an individualized plan of care that will achieve optimal health for the patient
Works with the patient to set SMART goals, address barriers, and encourage positive behavior changes in the 6 pillars of Lifestyle Medicine.
Employs motivational interviewing techniques to facilitate behavior change.
Monitors and evaluates outcomes related to the plan of care and established patient goals and modifies goals to achieve desired outcomes.
Documents in the electronic health records and communicates with interdisciplinary team members
Provides nutrition education in a group setting
Quality Improvement (QI) and Research activities
Participates and/or facilitates Optimal Care Path work groups and problem resolution activities to review current practices, analyze trends, and facilitate development and maintenance of nutrition-related programs/services to modify practices in a way that optimizes patient outcomes.
Demonstrates support of research in clinical nutrition practice through active participation in the collection, analysis, as well as interpretations of data for identified research projects.
Participates in Education of Self and Others
Identifies learning needs of self, patients, and other interdisciplinary team members.
Enhances nutrition knowledge proficiency through continuing education to ensure application of current research information and methods to nutrition practice.
Maintains and documents professional development activities in accordance with professional organization and ECU Health Medical Center policy.
Minimum Position Requirements/Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Dietetics or Food and Nutrition or related field is required.
Successful completion of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) approved dietetic internship or equivalent AND practicum experience.
LICENSURE OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Current active registered dietitian status with Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR) or eligible to take and pass exam within 3 months of hire
Current active licensed status in the state or ability to obtain.
Additional Qualifications
Passionate about well-being and eager to help patients better their health though lifestyle interventions.
Strong interest or experience in functional, integrative or and/or lifestyle medicine and knowledge of food as medicine concepts.
High confidence level in counseling for general nutrition, weight loss/management, chronic disease management, and meal planning.
Proficient in technology including Microsoft Office (WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT)
