Job Summary:
The Group Fitness Instructor in the Ornish Lifestyle Medicine Program (“Program”) is a remote position, responsible for the planning and delivery of the live, virtual Group Fitness sessions through real-time communication technology. The Group Fitness Instructor will be responsible for aiding in the creating of the exercise prescription for each participant and helping to ensure participants are able to follow the fitness program, adjusting as needed to help participants be successful with their fitness program. Actively participates in the development of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan (ITP) to ensure the quality and clinical effectiveness of the Program.
Essential Job Functions:
• Provides medically appropriate group fitness classes based on Ornish fitness guidelines and national standards per ACSM, AHA, ACC and AACVPR.
• Updates exercise prescription at baseline and every 30 days for Supervising Physician signature.
• Adjusts live class delivery and exercise prescriptions based on each participants medical history, abilities and needs.
• Provides support to individual participants as needed to help them successfully meet the program fitness goals.
• Ensures participants know the health/safety communication plan during live fitness classes as defined by Sharecare.
• Daily charting in Ornish charting platform on fitness classes provided and on participant’s weekly tracker.
• Teaches education classes on the fitness element of the program per cohort schedule.
• Participates in the monitoring, documentation, and communication of the participant’s response to the ITP throughout the Program intervention.
• Facilitates a high level of participant satisfaction.
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and patient confidentiality policies and procedures.
• Personally, models the Program by embodying its principles, philosophy, and practices.
• Attends and participates in weekly team meetings/case conferences.
• Attends and participates in element specialist working groups.
• Assists in training and orientation of new team members, when needed.
Specific Skills/ Attributes:
• Excellent public speaking skills and knowledge of adult education and coaching principles.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills with sensitivity to participant needs.
• Desire and willingness to collaborate as a member of a high-functioning transdisciplinary team that supports personal transformation.
• Excellent organization and planning skills focused on superior patient care.
• Experienced with interoffice communication and patient care coordination.
• Excellent computer skills, including use of electronic medical records, and secure telehealth platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Physical Therapy required, Masters preferred.
• Group fitness instructor certification, through ACE or ACSM, or certification of similar qualification
• Minimum of 2 years of recent experience providing group fitness classes for adult populations.
• Experience leading group fitness sessions via interactive technologies (e.g., Zoom or Microsoft Teams).
• Access to fitness or teaching area conducive to virtual teaching environment.
